Sali International School of Fertility Medicine (SISFM) is a state-of-the-art training centre for fertility specialists in Uganda, East Africa and the entire region. The institution will be categorised in Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI) under the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. It will train fertility specialists at Certificate, Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma and Masters level in gynaecological endoscopic surgery, clinical embryology, andrology, assisted reproductive technologies, sexual reproductive health, and fertility preservation.
Founded on the roots of the 1st IVF and fertility centre in East and Central Africa by Dr Edward Tamale Sali, the institution is the only one that will save many fertility students in of Africa from flying across the oceans to study fertility medicine. We intend to have batches of manageable number of students that can learn in a modern-day conducive environment while getting enough time for hands on experience and good lecturer-student interactions on one-on-one basis. The intent is to build a robust skilled fertility health workforce for the century that will address the unquenchable demand in Africa countries. Infertility remains a growing health event in the continent especially South of the Sahara.
Our incredible pool of academic staff will have all reproductive health professionals ranging from Andrologists, Embryologists, Fertility Medical Officers, Obstetrician Gynaecologists, to other apex qualifications in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Sexual Reproductive Health and Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery from within Uganda and beyond the borders. The experience and years of existence has brought together different experts in reproductive health from Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre (WHI), Kampala, Uganda, Dar IVF and Fertility Centre, Sali International Hospital in Dar es Salam, Tanzania, and Lusaka IVF Clinic in Lusaka, Zambia, from the European Union and the USA. With time and more capacity built, we are aiming at opening up more centres in Sub Saharan Africa to cater for the ravenous demand for human resources for fertility.
Our courses are designed to be conducted in the best lecture room environment, clinical engagements with qualified trainers; giving learners an edge over hands on experience and apprenticeship while addressing the growing gap between knowledge and applied skills that has plunged into health sector trainings. We’ll also use online lectures for the globalized world. We have a functional library with an array of fertility medical textbooks, e-online journals, publications from scientific research to spiritual knowledge enrichment. So many health facilities are coming up for infertility patients, without competent training personnel. The advancement in IT will enable us to project live theatre procedures conducted in a sterile atmosphere into the classroom where students can learn and appreciate science and innovation from Women’s Hospital International and Sali International Hospitals and IVF Centres elsewhere in Africa. Our onsite Laboratories for Andrology and Embryology will give students an edge of learning over online access.
We will share a lot of electronic information online, through public media, hard copies and social media. We aim to demystify stigmatization of infertility by trained personnel. To teach students and health professionals about the important links between Andrology, Embryology, fertility and gynaecology. This is a new science on the globe and many people are failing to know their intersection and union. We are committed to seeing that not only families but facilities are made complete with locally trained heath care workers which will in effect make fertility services enriching with good success rates, accessible and affordable.
Our Academic years will run at the same times with the calendar years for the long courses that last a year and beyond. However, we shall be flexible on admissions for short term courses. They’ll will be conducted as needed when the appropriate number of students register. Please give us your first choice in choosing a fertility medicine institute for the globalized world.
