Founded by nationally renowned fertility expert, Dr Edward Tamale Sali, a fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (UK), the academic programmes of the School are implemented using a variety of learning strategies including online, face-to-face, and blended teaching methods.

The educational and research activities of the School is supported by the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre (WHI), Kampala, Uganda, Sali International Hospital, Dar es Salam, Tanzania, and Lusaka IVF Clinic, Lusaka, Zambia. WHI is the first hospital in East and Central Africa to register the first in vitro fertilization (IVF) baby and the first hospital in Uganda to have carried out laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

All the supporting hospitals house facilities that support oocyte stimulation and retrieval, IVF, intra cytoplasmic sperm insemination (ICSI), intrauterine insemination (IUI), semen and oocyte/embryo cryopreservation, HIV sperm washing, sex selection, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and laboratory investigations such as hormonal and semen analysis.

Our academic programme curricula reflects on core set of courses directed at developing competencies and skills in leadership, ethics and professionalism, trans-disciplinary practice, applied and translational research, professional development and in-service training, innovation, as well as information dissemination (publication and communication to the larger community) in fertility medicine and gynaecology endoscopy.

These fundamental core activities are embedded in the School curricula and research activities; and  are central to addressing critical needs for professionals with skills, and competencies in fields of assisted reproductive technology practice in the nation, region and beyond.
