About the School

Sali International School of Fertility Medicine (SISFM) is one of Africa’s newly established Institution of higher learning to address the apparent gap in leadership personnel, research, training, and capacity building in the fields of assisted reproduction technologies, gynaecological endoscopic surgery, andrology and clinical embryology. The School’s training programmes are designed to offer opportunities for physicians, nurses, embryologists, pharmacists, veterinarians, biomedical scientists

and other healthcare providers to maintain or improve their knowledge, skills, competency and professionalism.
The programmes are implemented using a variety of learning strategies including online, face-to-face, hands-on training or in a hybrid format, to deliver its training programs and make learning flexible, effective, and convenient. Depending on organizational needs, training programmes can be customised for organisations.

Focus & Nature of the School

The School’s primary focus is on the development of continuous professional development, graduate-degree and certificate programmes in gynaecological endoscopic surgery, clinical embryology, assisted reproduction, infertility, and fertility preservation. These programmes are not currently offered by institutions of higher education in the country and region.

Our academic programme curricula reflects on core set of courses directed at developing skills in leadership, ethics and professionalism, transdisciplinary practice, applied and translational research, professional development and in-service training, innovation, as well as information dissemination (publication and communication to the larger community) in fertility medicine and gynaecology endoscopy.

These fundamental core activities are embedded in the School curricula and research activities; and  are central to addressing critical needs for professionals with skills, and competencies in fields of assisted reproductive technology practice in the nation, region and beyond.

The true expertise of the graduates of the school will be their ability to demonstrate leadership in the application of evidence-based practices in diverse settings, addressing the key issues of fertility and gynaecological disorders in the population and preservation of fertility as well as the health of the affected individuals.

Educational Objectives

SISFM has the following main educational objectives:

  • To provide professional development programs and continuous educational training for gynaecologists and obstetricians, surgeons, physicians, andrologists, embryologists, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare practitioners through various in-house and in-country trainings, workshops, symposiums, etc. on topical subjects in the area of fertility medicine and gynaecological endoscopic surgery;
  • To liaise with other national and international agencies to deliver professional development courses on common areas of concern in the field of fertility medicine and endoscopic surgery;
  • To increase knowledge and strengthen effective professional practices of gynaecologists, obstetricians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced in
    gynaecological disorders;
  • To adapt professional standards to the Ugandan context and therefore apply them to the training of
    gynaecologists and other healthcare practitioners in the field of fertility medicine and endoscopic surgery;
  • To provide sustainable professional development programs in accordance with educational development
    standards in order to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Health and any other relevant stakeholders.
