Certificate Course in Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)

Course Description

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a simple, cost-effective, noninvasive first-line therapy for cervical factor, anovulatory infertility, moderate male factor, unexplained infertility, and immunological infertility. This is an intensive course designed to enable participants get a complete insight into the pre-requisites and techniques associated with IUI. The course includes lectures on IUI Techniques, demonstration as well as hands-on training on sperm preparation procedures.

Course objectives

The objective of the course is to equip participants with advanced knowledge in semen processing and analysis, patient selection and preparation for IUI. The course deals with the basics of Physiology, couple evaluation for IUI, controlled ovarian stimulation, and how to improve IUI success. The course also teaches you semen preparation in details.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of all the modules in the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the requirements for setting up an IUI laboratory and patient selection
  • Demonstrate knowledge on the technical aspects of semen processing methods for IUI.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of indications and the process of IUI

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for graduates in clinical medicine, clinical embryology and related disciplines, and research scientists with little or no IUI experience wishing to learn the basics of the technique.

Course Design

This course comprises of 3 parts:

  • Flexible online learning at participant’s own pace.
  • Interactive live online lectures with faculty members regarding the procedures.
  • Two (2) days observationship and hands-on practicals at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre, Kampala.
